The new Gustav-Mesmer-House uses its position at the edge of the psychiatric campus in Bad Schussenried to complete the complex and to establish a closer relationship with the surrounding countryside.
We wished to establish a balanced relationship between the functional necessities of an excellent clinic, the urban setting and the needs of the individual patient. Thus monitoring, security and other constraints on the patient are where possible invisibly integrated into the building and its daily use.
Pathways become promenades and all patient rooms have unconstrained views to the surrounding landscape. Such generosity is rendered economical through the extensive use of prefabrication.
